Summertime and Sangria. It just doesn’t get better than that! This fruit based red wine is super popular in Spain, but since I can’t afford to visit Spain any time soon, I’ll have to make do with Sangria in my own backyard. Oh, I’m not complaining. Not one tinsy winsy bit!
Sangria:
1 bottle red wine (750 ml – Merlot, Shiraz, Zinfandel or Cabernet Sauvignon, my fav. Doesn’t have to be good stuff) – $6.00
1/2 cup Brandy – $1.00
Juice 2 oranges – $.50
Juice of 1 lime and 1 lemon – $.45
3 Tbsp sugar – pantry
1-2 cups club soda – $.50
1 Lemon, Lime and Orange, cut in 1/4’s and sliced thinly – $.70COST: $9.15
Add sugar to citrus juice and stir till dissolved. To citrus mixture, add brandy, red wine and sliced fruit. Stir and let Sangria sit and chill for at least 2 hours before serving, preferably overnight. Add Club Soda and a few ice cubes just before pouring.
