Here’s the deal…when i was a kid, there was nothing. And I mean NOTHING, that compared to a Creamsicle from the Ice Cream truck. I would scrimp and save every last penny for one of those lusciously sweet treats. Nowadays, not only are the ice cream trucks becoming few and far between, they rarely carry creamsicles. How sad is that? So, I set out to make my own! Hey. I have an orange tree. Why the hell not, right? Let me tell you….OUTSTANDING! But don’t believe me. Test it for yourself!
Orange Creamsicle Ice Cream:
Juice from 6 fresh squeezed oranges – free from my yard! – $1.75 to 2.00 in stores
2 cups heavy cream – $1.50
1 cup whole milk – pantry/fridge
3/4 cup sugar – $.30
1/2 fresh lemon, juiced – $.25
1 tsp Pure Vanilla extract – pantryCOST: $4.05
Juice oranges and lemon and pour into sauce pan. Add 1/4 cup sugar and warm, on medium low, till sugar is dissolved, stirring occasionally.
Once juice mixture is ready, transfer to glass bowl and place in fridge for 5 hours or freezer for 45 mins to one hour.
When orange mixture is super cold and ready, begin your ice cream mixture.
In a glass bowl, mix 1/2 cup sugar with 1 cup COLD milk and 1 tsp vanilla, until sugar is well disolved. Next, add cream and mix again. With Ice Cream machine running, pour cream mixture in. Churn for 15-20 mins, or until ice cream is very firm.
At the last second, pour in your orange mixture and let ice cream maker mix for just 10-15 seconds. Remove creamsicle mixture and freeze! Once you taste this ice cream, all those childhood memories will come back and your mouth will be in creamy, orange heaven.
